Hope to End Dog Fighting

As someone who obsessively researches pit bulls, I am often deeply discouraged and overwhelmed by the stories of abuse and fighting. Today, I found a video from the Humane Society of the United States that was really inspiring: http://video.hsus.org/

I stated in an earlier blog that unless we focus on the human end of this problem, all our bleeding heart adoptions and shelter work are just tiny band-aids on a gushing artery of cyclic abuse.

Going into the heart of the neighborhoods where the cycle begins, and treating the children, is critical to solving this problem at its roots. We as a society need to look at the children who grow up in an atmosphere of violence, neglect and hopelessness, and extend our hands to help them. If we can show them that they are valued and loved, and give them a sense of empowerment and accomplishment, we are planting seeds that will bear sweet, beautiful fruit.

Of course I have to quote Christ on this, because He really does speak the truth. Love your neighbor as yourself. And forgive them, for they know not what they do.
